Physical Education
Welcome to physical education at Cambridge-Narrows Community School. Our hope is that all of our students can experience success and enjoy being physically active in this program. Miss Wellwood teaches all students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 three times a week and the Grade 9/10 physical education program 5 days a week. Mrs Allen teaches Grades 6 to 8 two times a week.
The definition of Physical Education states that quality physical education is a planned program of instruction and activity for all students throughout the entire year that develops skills and attitudes towards a healthy active lifestyle. In the elementary and middle level this will be accomplished through meaningful learning experiences that balance Knowing, Doing, and Valuing. Students will be expected to have appropriate footwear for the gym which includes indoor sneakers. (NO CROCS or BOOTS)
Knowing include understanding the principles and concepts of active living and movement, how to maintain a functional level of fitness as well as having a good understanding of safety issues.
Doing includes gaining command of general and specific skills and efficient body movement. It also focuses on working independently and with others.
Valuing addresses the development of positive social and interpersonal relationships, and attitudes towards life-long health and well-being.
Students in Grade 9/10 physical education will be assessed and evaluated on an ongoing basis. The final mark will be formulated using the following guidelines:
Attendance/Preparation 10%
Cooperation 20%
Effort 20%
Skill Development 10%
Classroom Mark 20%
Assignments/Tests 20%
